Administrative / Biographical History
Phyllis Bone was born in Hornby, Lancashire in 1897, and studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and on the continent. Primarily a realist sculptor of animals in bronze, she exhibited at the RA, RSA, Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and abroad. Bone was the first female Royal Scottish Academician. She was one of several sculptors working under Pilkington Jackson at the Scottish National War Memorial, Edinburgh Castle (1924 - 1927), for which she executed the heraldic and animal sculptures. She lived in Kirkcudbright in Scotland, and died in 1972.
