These papers relate to the Provisional Government of the Kingdom of Sarawak, which was seated in London during the Japanese occupation of Borneo, and of which Thomas Corson was a member.
Administrative / Biographical History
Thomas Corson was James Clarkson Corson's older brother. He was born in Edinburgh in 1900 or 1901. He attended Daniel Stewart's College, Edinburgh, from 1906 to 1918. He matriculated in the Faculty of Science, University of Edinburgh, in 1918, and graduated BSc in Forestry in 1922. By 1927, Thomas Corson was Assistant Conservator of Forests, Sarawak. He was promoted to Conservator for the Sarawak Forest Department in 1934, holding the position until 1946. He was awarded the Order of the Star of Sarawak for gallantry in 1941 (the year of the Japanese invasion of Borneo), and in 1942 was appointed one of the three-man Provisional Government of Sarawak in London.
