  Correspondence: 1867. Miscellaneous topics pertaining to engineering and business matters together with current, general and family affairs. Correspondents and contents include: William Don, Dundee Orphan Institution ( Thanks anonymous donor [PC?] for donation of £100); Lewis Carmichael, Cambridge House, Piccadilly (Relates to genealogy and his claim on the Earldom of Hyndford); James Spence, 5 Queen’s Square, Newcastle-on-Tyne & Albion Iron Works St. Peter’s, Newcastle-on-Tyne (Discusses his son James [C. Spence]’s career development; expresses surprise at his son’s decision to go to work for PC rather than go to sea); James C. Spence, 270 Kings Road, Chelsea and 53 Sowers road, Southsea (Thanks PC for his assistance in trying to secure him a position; thanks PC for getting him position in the ‘shop’); James C. Lyell, Calcutta (Tells his Uncle [PC] of life in India and advises him that a ship crewed by 50 ‘lascars’ will soon arrive in Dundee) Robert Fisher, Bridge End Cottage, Leven (Fisher, a United Presbyterian Minister asks PC for a contribution towards building a manse for his church. Includes related correspondence from other parties; letter thanking PC for his response to letter and giving background on his congregation which is comprised ‘almost solely of working men’); Copy letter from PC to Rev. John R. McDougall, Florence, later Kelvingrove, Glasgow, later Coburg Place, Maburn (accompanied donation of £5 to Rev. McDougall’s mission in Florence; Letters enclosing letters from ‘Metzgar’ about copy of the Visitation; encloses letter which Mr and Mrs Murray Graham mind find useful on their tour); William Collier, (enquires about Pc’s Jersey cow); Mr Shaefer, 2 Charlotte Square, Perth (Correspondence relating to his translation from ‘Metzgar’ of a note to PC relating to works of art including half size copy of the Visitation by Mariotto Albertinelli by Gatti. Also includes original note [in Italian] and Shaefer’s translation); John Shiell, Dundee (relates to PC’s interest in Blackruthven [property near Perth] with copy reply); John Masson, Dundee (appeal for funds to extend Russell Chapel, Hawkhill, with list of subscribers and information about the chapel); Copy letter from PC to Mr Shaefer (sent with transfer of £150); Sir David Baxter, (relates to [Baxter Brother’s] Duck contract); John Easthope, Royal Dockyard, Deptford (Mentions previous visit to PC and failure of flax crops; refers to British Association meeting in Dundee and praises PC and his ‘towering position’ in the flax industry); George Carmichael (relates to subscription paper); D. B Peebles, Fountain Bridge Meter Works, Edinburgh (relates to cheque PC has sent him); J & J Miller, Blackfriars Street, Perth (relates to PC’s tenancy of Bonhar, with copy reply), Captain Duncan, 23 Great George Square, Liverpool (Has returned from Calcutta in a voyage lasting 8 months and six days; James Carmichael [JR], À Ailly-sur-Somme France (discusses business matters; has sent PC, his uncle, tracings relating to weaving projects to look over); John Carmichael, St. Helens (encloses copy of letter he has sent to ‘Kidd’).
