Correspondents and contents include: Robert Baxter, Moulin-Lille, France (asking if PC can find a position for his brother); Institution of Engineers in Scotland (programme for meeting at which PC was to give a talk on steam engines); James Carmichael, À Ailly-sur-Somme, France (includes reference to problems with flax spinning in Dundee, an accident at the Works of M. G. Edwards of Dundee, and steam boilers) Dr. McGavin, Magadalen Place, Dundee (Discusses an orphan named John M. Hunter in PC’s employ) David Russell, 57 Abbotsford [Place?], Glasgow (concerns the widow of the Rev. Alex Campbell); D. Baxter, Hamburg (Includes reference to flood [at Dens works?]; James Sinclair, Stirling (includes discussion of pumps); James Spence, H.M. NB this bundle includes a letter from Robert Baxter to Peter Carmichael 5 Jan.1859 stamped with two blue French Empire stamps. This letter and some others in this bundle have had the part with their authors’ signatures cut out.
