Scope and Content
Brown leather backed pocket note book containing Carmichael's notes of his journey to Glasgow, 10 April, 1856. Describes visit to Messrs Scott and Co., John St. Works, Bridgeton. Notes on journey to England commenced 6 October, 1856. Detailed descriptions of visits to mills and machine makers in the north of England, the dockyards at Portsmouth, Crystal Palace in London and foundry at Woolwich. Includes sketches of machines. (Piece of fern pressed between pages.)
