Scope and Content
Correspondence: 1861 (but bundle includes 1 letter from 1860). Miscellaneous topics pertaining to engineering and business matters together with current, general and family affairs. Correspondents and contents include: Andrew Fairbairn, Great George Street, London (Thanks PC for condolences he sent on the death of Mr. Fairbairn’s father); William Sime, Dundee (asks for reference); James Sinclair, Strone, Stirling (discuses sails); Rev. Robert Spence, Airlie Place, Dundee (seeks work for Andrew Black mechanic; letter introduces PC to William Cowan who is seeking employment at Dens Works); D Cruickshank, Bedford Place, Southampton (including letter in acknowledgement of £60 sent by PC); Charles Mackie thanks PC for his aid the previous year and discusses his history and Carmichael family members) James Carmichael, À Ailly-sur-Somme, France and Broughty Ferry (includes reference to fact he will be unable to see PC while he is in Scotland and expresses his hope that the health of PC and his family improves); J.
