Administrative / Biographical History
Sarah McEwan was born in Glasgow, Scotland in around 1923. She began studying at the University of Glasgow in 1941, taking Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Anatomy and Botany in her first year. In her second year she studied Anatomy and Physiology. In her third year she studied Materia Medica, Pathology, Surgery and Clinical Surgery. In her fourth year she studied Dermatology, Tuberculosis, Public Health, Medical Jurisprudence, and Midwifery. In her fourth year she also attended medical lectures and medical and surgical clinics. In her fifth year she studied Clinical Medicine, Pathology, Radiology, Medicine, Surgery and Midwifery. She graduated MB ChB in 1946. She went onto a career as a medical practitioner. In 1961 she received a diploma in Public Health from the University. She also received a Diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and became the Medical Officer in Kampala in Uganda. According to the Medical Directory by 1967 she had moved to Novo Scotia in Canada.
