Contains letters written to David Greig, Lord Provost and Alexander MacKenzie and Archibald Reid, town clerks, Perth by Alexander MacKenzie and Robert Martin relating to the Perth Police and Navigation Bills; by teachers at the Perth schools relating to inventories of the town's property and statistics of pupils for previous years; and by others relating to legal and council business. Includes:
Petition to the Lord Provost and magistrates by John Murray, Robert Bell and Archibald Brown, advocates complaining that they suffer great inconvenience from the fact that the space set aside for them at the circuit court is "habitually occupied by the Gentlemen of the Press and others".
Letter from Alexander MacKenzie, London to Archibald Reid, Perth relating to the progress of the Perth Police Bill. Mentions that he has an appointment to see the Earl of Kinnoull and observes that "the Suburban's have attempted to play upon the only string which was likely to avail with his Lordship viz. His own interest tho' how his Lordship is interested I think it will be difficult to shew", 8 May 1839.
Letter from Alexander MacKenzie, London to Archibald Reid, Perth relating to the Perth Police Bill and the delay caused by the petition against it. Observes that "Lord Melbourne & his Ministry have been restored to favour. There are a thousand reports in circulation here in the Course of a day. & what to believe & what to discredit one can scarce determine", 11 May 1839.
Letter from A Logan, Perth Grammar School to David Greig, Lord Provost, Perth relating to his absences from school and to the ban on private classes, 13 June 1839.
Letter from A Logan, Perth Grammar School to David Greig, Lord Provost, Perth relating to a report in circulation that his classes were "in a state of utter confusion" when members of the education committee visited the school. Denies the accuracy of this report, 20 May 1839.
