Burgess ticket in favour of Alexander MacKenzie, “Prime Minister of Canada, a native of Perthshire” with burgh tag and seal.
Letter from Honourable A Kinnaird, MP, London to Mr Thomas, Perth relating to the “great pleasure” he will be given on being allowed to deliver the Lord Provost’s letter to Mr MacKenzie. Feels honoured that Perth may “have the gratification in being the first city in Scotland to present him with it’s freedom”; 1 July 1875.
Letter from A MacKenzie, London to A Kinnaird, London concerning his apologies for the delay in calling upon him. Informs him that he has written to the Lord Provost “thanking the council for their kind offer and signifying my willingness to accept it”; 2 July 1875.
Letter from A Kinnaird, MP, London to Mr Thomas, Perth informing him that “the Dundee folk have got ahead of us” concerning the granting of freedom of the city. Asks if the “Dundee people could not be got to postpone it”; 2 July 1875.
Letter from A Kinnaird, MP, London to Mr Thomas, Perth informing him that he has approached MacKenzie requesting he give Perth precedence as they approached him first and also because he is “a Perthshire man”; 2 July 1875.
