Printed Minutes of the Board of Police of Glasgow
- Reference:GB 243 E1/6
- Dates of Creation:1874 - 1904
- Language of Material:English
- Physical Description:30 volumes
Scope and Content
These contain the printed minutes of the fortnightly and extraordinary meetings of the Board of Police (later the Magistrates and Council of Glasgow) and the committees of Finance, Watching and Lighting, Statute Labour, Health, Cleansing, Hospitals, Street Improvements, Parliamentary Bills, Magistrates and Public Baths and Wash-houses. The volumes also include Special Committees such as Central Police Buildings, Collection of Assessments, Salaries, Widening of St George's Road, Police Superannuation and Extension of Fire Brigade.
These are duplicated by the manuscript minutes in E1/7-8, 10, 12-15 and 18. There is a gap in the printed minutes between November 1889 and January 1891. When re-cataloguing it was found that there were duplicate volumes for 1887 and 1901 - 1902 which were not retained. The volumes in the series have been rebound so the embossed spine references give the previous numbering (E1/6A/1-31).
