Scope and Content
I - City of Glasgow Police Criminal Returns for the Year Ending 31 December 1900. Includes figures for numbers taken into custody for what crimes and how they were disposed of by the magistrates with divisions by sex, place of birth, age, education etc; number of visits and inspections made by Police to stables, hackney cabs etc; number of fatal and non-fatal accidents; reports made to other Corporation Departments such as Water, Gas etc of problems; wages and length of service of Police; number of vagrants; etc.
II - Annual reports of sickness in the Police Force, Fire Brigade and Lighting Department 1902
III - Report of the Glasgow Fire Brigade for the year ending December 1901 with description of premises in which fires occurred and supposed causes; way in which alarm given, source of water, how fire extinguished etc; and numerical strength of brigade.
IV - Seventh Annual Report on Work Done in Connection with Master of Works Department for the year ending 31 May 1902 with sections on paving; street improvements;sewer work; number of workmen employed; public weighing machines; public conveniences; drinking fountains and water troughs; open spaces; claims for damages; and statement of approvals made by the Dean of Guild. With maps of Glasgow showing areas of decrease in population.
V - Report by the Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures for year ending 31 May 1902 with number of business inspected; statement of income and expenditure; and number of staff.
VI - Report of the Medical Officer of Health of the City of Glasgow 1901 with sections on population; marriages; births; deaths by cause; uncertified deaths; meteorology; plague; Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops Order 1899; Bacteriological Department; uninhabitable houses; offensive trades; bakehouses; rabies; and reception houses.
VII - Thirty-Second Annual Report on the Operations of the Sanitary Department of the City of Glasgow for the year ending 31 December 1901 with charts of smoke pollution; table by district of nuisances, lodging houses, night inspections for overcrowding, female visitations, drain testing, infectious diseases, vaccinations, bakehouses, factories and workshops, smoke prevention, byres dairies and milk shops, adulteration of food, dead meat inspection, limewashing, reception houses, interments and infringments under the Shop Acts; work done by nuisance inspector by sub-division; the work of the wash-houses at Belvidere and Ruchill; and return of houses unfit for human inhabitation.
