Scope and Content
THIS SECTION IS UNFINISHED AS AT 6/2/2017. THE ORIGINAL 6 BOXES ARE STILL LABELLED E6 - PF CORRESPONDENCE.
This is the Procurator Fiscal's incoming correspondence and at some point the letters were arranged into chronological bundles, an arrangement which has been retained. It is not known how they were originally arranged. The correspondence relates to requests for prosecution from individuals; complaint and sentence forms; requests for legal opinion; summons to appear in court; as well as more personal correspondence such as invitations, letters from family and friends; and financial information on the purchase of shares etc. The correspondence bundles for 1849-1850 were originally in a different box and although mostly the same type of correspondence they do not seem to include the official documents giving details of cases.
Due to the volume of correspondence only significant items have been highlighted in the catalogue entries. Correspondents and defendants names are frequently mentioned throughout and bundles should be consulted in their entirety if a case is known to have happened in a given period as not all cases will have been listed.
