Administrative / Biographical History
The Banking Insurance & Finance Union was founded in 1918 . In May 1999 the company merged with Nat West staff association and Barclay's union to become Unifi and created one of largest white-collar unions in Britain and the largest specialist finance sector union in the world. In 1998 the Glasgow Branch operated from 146 Argyle Street, Glasgow. As of 2000, it represented almost 200,000 employees of banks, building societies, finance houses and insurance companies.
