Administrative / Biographical History
Klaus Staeck was born in Pulnitz, near Dresden in 1938. A printmaker, publisher and art dealer, he was a self-taught artist and produced his first prints and posters in 1960. In 1965 he founded the publishing house Edition Tangente (now Edition Staeck). His mass-produced posters, postcards and stickers used mainly collage and photomontage, through which he explored the relation between image and text. He worked for the political left in the 1970s, and displayed the political aspects of his art through exhibitions and his publishing house. He collaborated with Joseph Beuys, and wrote the book 'Beuys in America' (1987).
