'AHL not only prospected for oil in the North West Territories immediately before and after the first world war, but he also prospected for oil in Peru after the war. Before the war, while in Canada prospecting for oil on the Mackenzie river in summer, I understand he also spent one winter teaching at a Christian Missionary School for Eskimoes at Hay River. '
'AHL qualified with an MA degree from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and studied geology at the Royal College of Mines in London. He was a member of the Royal Geographical Society and, I think, the Royal Photographic Society, amongst other institutions.'
