Administrative / Biographical History
George McGlashan Kerr (1874-1950) was a missionary for the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society, working in Hyderabad, India. He was born in Aberdeen and volunteered for missionary work in Africa after meeting Robert Laws. He trained in Manchester and was appointed to Southern Rhodesia in 1900, but soon returned home. He married Isabel Gunn (1875-1932) in 1903, and the couple went to Hyderabad in 1907 after a period of ministry in the United Kingdom. Kerr worked as as a superintendent in an industral school, whilst his wife was a medical missionary. They set up a home for leprosy sufferers in Dichpali - the Victoria Leprosy Hospital - where Isabel introduced pioneering treatments. In 1923 they were awarded the Kaiser-I-Hind medal. Isabel died in 1932, and Kerr left India in 1938 to retire to Cove in Scotland where he died in 1950.
