Scope and Content
Labelled "Day book". Entries made from 20 Nov 1900 to 14 Oct 1912 have been made at various periods throughout each year and are dated as such. Entries thereafter have been made only at the end of October for each year until 1963, and calculate the trial balance for each given year. From 1952 to 1963 these entries also have a typed trial balance sheet for the year attached, which contain the company name William Thomson & Co as the header. There are also working notes enclosed for most of these years. The entries for October 1964 record the division of the company's assets among the partners at the time. The final entry, dated 31 Oct 1964 records that "the partnership of William Thomson & Co was dissolved on 31 October 1964, the partners except M Miller becoming managing directors of the Ben Line Steamers Ltd". It then continues to detail the sale of the office building at North St David Street to the Scottish Life Insurance Co Ltd as well as the sale of office furnishings.
