Scope and Content
The collection consists of corporate records relating to the William Wilson Collection. Includes:
- Staff records, 1948-1963;
- Promotional material, 1960s.
Administrative / Biographical History
William Wilson 's father was manager of George Younger & Son Ltd 's Eglinton Bottling Store in Alloa. Around 1941 , after leaving school William began work in the firm's Forwarding Department. He was subsequently called up for service in the Royal Navy and served as a coder on a minesweeper. After the war, William was offered the post of Manager of Younger's Perth branch, which had been set up after the firm's acquisition of G Millar , Aerated Water Manufacturers. The branch was responsible for the production of mineral water as well as serving as a beer and transport depot. In 1961, George Younger & Son Ltd became a member of the United Caledonian Breweries Ltd group. The Perth branch was closed shortly afterwards, and William returned to Alloa to work in the bottling store and then as Managed House Supervisor for Central area. The firm then merged with J & R Tennent Ltd to form Tennent Caledonian Breweries Ltd . William moved to work in the North of Scotland area, based in Dundee, and became District Manager responsible for all the firm's managed houses in and to the north of the city. He died suddenly on 16 December 1970, aged 44.
