Scope and Content
Only eleven of the pages bear entries, the remainder being blank except for the last page which has some accounts. The entries date from the time when Mackenzie arrived in London from Ramsgate after his three year tour of the Continent. The entry for Monday 25th March reads: 'After much vacillation I have determined to fix upon London as my place of residence, & to begin with lecturing on medical jurisprudence.' Further entries include a trip to Scotland, a proposal to be assistant to Sir William Adams, the inauguration of lectures and his departure for Glasgow in August 1819: "Tomorrow I sail for Leith. How indifferent I feel to localities. Leave London for Glasgow as some men wd one room of their house for another. Go to obtain Allan Burns's dissecting room, there to lecture on anatomy."
