There is no prospect of Boyd getting to Mackenzie. George gets weaker daily.. Swan has not seen a case like it. Defends Swan -"Do you mean any part of your "medical frauds" for him?… if you do prepare for my making you recant on your bare knees - Cleghorn deserves it all, & a great deal more….You must respect him he is the very essence of honesty - & though he cuts 2 baskets of strawberries per day - with a sack full or two of gooseberries - & comes forth of a morning with a beard like a field of barley, & exhibits at night, stretched asleep on 4 chairs, a bum like the Infirmary Door - nevertheless he has a most medical brain."
