Scope and Content
Records related to stamping. Originally, the HTA employed stampers that were based across the islands - at one point (pre-1960s) there were three in the Uists (Berneray, Lochmaddy, South Uist) and three in Harris (Tarbert, Geocrab, Borve), as well as those that would operate out of Stornoway. The stamping ledgers (1935-1992) reflect this, while the later (1987-2013) duplicate books were produced by stampers working from Stornoway, and visiting the mills. A range of statistics can be found in the volumes, including weavers' names, the length of the tweed presented for stamping, the amount charged for stamping each piece of tweed, the number of stamps used each month (each stamp being a single-use transfer), and the amount of tweed stamped in the various stamping locations.
