Scope and Content
Notebook (legal-sized, hardback) listing weavers in certain parts of Lewis, organised by village/township. Within each village, weavers are listed numerically, by croft/house number. Pages are numbered.
Half (later a third or a quarter) of a page is dedicated to each weaver. The purpose of the notebook seems to be to record inspection visits to properties of weavers to ascertain the location of their loom. For each weaver entered in the book, the address of the weaver and of their loom is noted, as well as the 'date visited' and any 'remarks'. Many notes in the remarks section state 'form correct', indicating that weavers may had had to fill in forms stating the location of their loom prior to the inspections being carried out. The first section of the book covers Back, Point, and Stornoway (May and June visits), while the latter part covers Shawbost and North Bragar (October and November visits).
