Scope and Content
A folder advertising Harris Tweed, and containing samples of four patterns. Front and reverse are forest green with gold outer corners and gold writing. Writing comprises 'Harris Tweed / Woven by hand in the Western Isles of Scotland', the Orb, and 'Harris Tweed Scotland' on the front, and the last verse of the poem 'If' by Rudyard Kipling on the reverse. Inside left contains an image of a jacket hanging over a chair, and wording explaining the significance of Harris Tweed. Inside right contains four stuck-in samples of Harris Tweed patterns, named 'Dalmore', 'Barva', 'Laxdale' and 'Taransay'. The sample of 'Taransay' is three times the size of the others. All are traditional, muted patterns.
For a period of time after Yorkshireman Brian Haggas's purchase of Kenneth Mackenzie Ltd. in 2006, garments made from Harris Tweed produced out of the Kenneth Mackenzie mill were sold through a company called Harris Tweed Scotland Limited, with a business address in Keighley, Yorkshire. Brian Haggas bought Kenneth Mackenzie Ltd. in December 2006, so it is likely that this and GD014/5/4/1/3 were produced in 2007 or later. The company does not appear to exist any more (2018).
