Scope and Content
Papers related to the never-realised plans for a Harris Tweed Interpretive Centre (HTIC), in which the HTA was involved. Originally conceived in 1994 (though discussions seem to go back to 1988 - see HTA Board minutes 17/6/1988), this was to be a visitor centre designed to tell the story of Harris Tweed, and to provide a focal point in the islands for people wishing to find out more about the industry. It was to have an exhibition, cafe, and potentially studio space, or spaces that could be rented out to local groups to raise income during the winter. Various sites were considered, and eventually Tarbert was settled on. Applications to various funding bodies were made, but the largest - that to The Millennium Commission - was rejected in 1997, leading to the stagnation of the project. There was an attempt to carry it on, with new plans made, and the idea was taken over by Harris Development Limited (HDL). It seems to have petered out around 2002.
Organised into six subseries: minutes and agendas of the steering group, general correspondence, the Millennium Commission and ERDF applications, plans and loose reports, and bound reports.
