Scope and Content
Notebook (legal-sized) covering stamping throughout the islands, split into three sections.
The first part of the volume contains stamping tables for 1954 to 1990 showing the monthly total yardage (metreage from 1986) stamped outwith Lewis, divided by location (including: Tarbert, south Harris, Scalpay, North Uist, South Uist, Bernera[y]). Also annual totals. As less tweed was stamped in most locations, the entries for Tarbert become more prominent, and from around 1970 include payment received (the price charged by the HTA to stamp the cloth and officially designate it Harris Tweed). From 1967 the south Harris stamping locations are given their geographical names of Geocrab and Borve (rather than 'S. Harris'). These entries end when the Tarbert stamping office closed in September 1990. Between the pages for 1982 and 1983, there is a sales table for 1955, showing how many yards of tweed each mill sold to various countries around the world.
Secondly, stamping tables for 1962 to 1992 showing the monthly total yardage (metreage from 1986) of Harris Tweed stamped throughout the islands, and the payment received (the price charged by the HTA to stamp the cloth and officially designate it Harris Tweed). A column to the side indicates how much of the total was stamped in Harris, and (from 1981) in Uist.
Beginning at the back of the volume and working forwards, there are tables for 1954 to 1961 showing the monthly total yardage stamped in Stornoway/Lewis, and the payment received (the price charged by the HTA to stamp the cloth and officially designate it Harris Tweed). Also annual totals. Quantity woven in Harris is included in small numbers from 1956 to 1959, and as a separate column for 1960 and 1961. These tables then continue in the second section of the book (detailed above).
