Scope and Content
This series contains case files created during the course of criminal investigations carried out by the Department for the Crown Authorities in the function of medico-legal examiner. Work was carried out at the request of the Procurator Fiscal and involved interaction with those offices as well as with members of police forces across Scotland, and in some cases, England. Some of the files are very extensive, with documentation relating to principle investigations in a case through to documentation relating to legal proceedings, and in some cases beyond, even when the department was no longer actively involved in the case. Files contain a range of documents including post mortem reports, toxicology reports, draft reports, notes, photographs, indictments, depositions, correspondence, and newspaper clippings.
Arrangement
The sub-series is arranged in chronological order and is described to file level.
