Administrative / Biographical History
Marion Dorn was born in San Francisco in 1899. She graduated from Stanford University at the age of 16, and married the artist Henry Varnum Poor. After a divorce, she lived with the graphic designer Edward McKnight Kauffer in London from 1923 - 40. They returned to New York at the outbreak of the Second World War, and married in 1950. Dorn was a painter of still lifes and portraits, but is perhaps best known for her textile designs and 'sculpted carpets'. She contributed to the interiors of the Savoy, Claridges, the Orion and the Queen Mary. She died in 1964.
