  Letters and invitations; programmes and advertisements; newspaper articles; personal anecdotes. 1991-1994. Much of the collection comprises materials surrounding Glasgow Royal Infirmary’s bicentenary year celebrations, in which Professor Lorimer played a prominent role.

• Administrative / Biographical History

  Andrew Ross Lorimer was born on the 5 May 1937. He graduated MB ChB from the University of Glasgow in 1960 and MD with honours, also from the University of Glasgow, in 1976. From 1961-1963 he worked as a research fellow at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee in nuclear medicine and biophysics before returning to Glasgow. At Glasgow Royal Infirmary he worked as a registrar in Medicine from 1963-1966; Lecturer in Cardiology, University of Glasgow from 1966 -1971; consultant cardiologist 1971-1991. He was appointed an Honorary Professor of Medicine at Glasgow University in 1991 and was President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow from 2000-2003. He also chaired specialty committees at the Scottish Office.
