Notebooks of William Spence, c1910-1936, containing miscellaneous genealogical information and transcripted legal material including: transcripts of legal papers relating to Orkney in the period 1327-1873; original title deeds and other legal and financial papers relating to Orkney, 1592-1861; papers relating to Spence family history including extracts from family records and family correspondence; local historical information relating to St Andrews and Deerness in the 19th Century; transcripts of the accounts of Kirkwall Kirk Session for the period 1704-1720; transcripts of St Magnus Kirk Session minutes for 1630-1631, and miscellaneous other information concerning Orkney local history and genealogy from the 16th to 20th Centuries gathered by Spence. Papers relating to John Spence of Redbanks, St Andrews, 1844-1944, including: legal papers concerning a dispute over the seating of the choir in St Magnus Cathedral, 1857; material concerning the will of Spence, 1868-1900.
