Scope and Content
Material pertaining to military activity. The most active military force prior to the first world war was the Argyll and Bute Volunteers. During the first world war, Loch na Keal was briefly home to the ships of the Grand Fleet and in the second world war the harbour at Tobermory was used as a naval base for working up the escort ships for the Atlantic convoys. There was also an RAF presence at Carsaig and there are two aircraft crashes on the island that date from the second world war.
