Scope and Content
Small amount of material pertaining mainly to the Beatons of Pennycross and their medical tradition mainly from secondary sources.
Other related material in the Museum's collections: “The Beatons, a medical kindred in the classical Gaelic tradition” by John Bannerman is a scholarly history of this learned kinship from the early 14th to the early 18th centuries (Library 6.E.23) and John Lorne Campbell’s “Edward Lhuyd in the Scottish Highlands 1699-1700” (Library 2.C.23) has much material on Lhuyd’s meeting with John Beaton and his viewing of Beaton manuscripts. There are several photographs of the Beaton cross (in memory of the Beaton family of Pennyghael, see Argyll 3 no 319, Library 6.F.9) in PHOTOS.
