The South American Missionary Magazine was produced by the South American Missionary Society, an Anglican mission. The South American Missionary Society was founded in 1844 as the Patagonian Mission by Captain Allen Francis Gardiner (1794-1851), who died of starvation on Picton Island, South America, awaiting a supply ship from England when he was attempting to extend his mission to native inhabitants.
