Administrative / Biographical History
The Regions Beyond was the periodical produced by Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational evangelical mission working in Argentina, Peru, the Congo and India, although RBMU expanded into Irian Jaya, Borneo and Nepal after the Second World War. The mission was founded in 1873 by Dr Henry Grattan Guinness (1835-1910) when the East London Training Institute for Home and Foreign Missions was opened in Stepney, London, United Kingdom. The Peru and Argentina fields of Regions Beyond Missionary Union were to merge with the South American Evangelical Mission in 1911 to form the Evangelical Union of Latin America. Regions Beyond Missionary Union resumed activities in Peru following the Second World War and absorbed the Peruvian Inland Mission in 1948. However, difficulties caused the UK Council of Regions Beyond Missionary Union to spilt with its overseas councils in 1979, and in 1990 its South American activities were merged with the larger Evangelical Union of South America to form Latin Link. Activities in other areas were transferred to other mission organisations, and Regions Beyond Missionary Union ceased activities in 1991. The Regions Beyond Missionary Union was titled Horizons in the 1980s.
