Scope and Content
This series contains bundles of papers which were numbered as part of an inventory process. The inventory was done by the Clerk to the Burgh upon its incorporation into Glasgow (as was the case with Kinning Park - see H-KPK5/81) and the inventory itself is at H-MAR5/74. Two different labelling styles were used for the bundles (typed and manuscript) but the bundle numbering continues across the styles.
The papers were originally catalogued as 'H-MAR10 - Various Papers - 2 boxes' but on recataloguing there were found to be 15 boxes. These boxes contained unlabelled papers as well as the numbered bundles. Some of these papers were missing bundles according to the inventory and the rest has been retained in this series as the provenance is probably the same. Numbered bundles that were found later have not been catalogued in sequence.
An attempt was made at some point to catalogue the unlabelled papers and they were arranged in bundles. This was probably by local historian Bill Spalding, as the numbering used is the same as the work he did on the uncatalogued records of Partick. He favoured arranging material by subject rather than preserving original order but in the absence of any surviving information on how these records related to the labelled bundles his arrangement has also been retained. These later bundles (from H-MAR5/52) are very miscellaneous and papers on the same subjects could be in any of the bundles.
The correspondence at H-MAR4 (bundle numbers 39-48) has the same labelling system but they were separated in the original catalogue and this has been retained.
