                  What’s on this site?

Your Scottish Archives was launched in 2022, the Year of Scotland’s Stories.  It will continue to expand as more archives are added. Here you can find item and collection level descriptions from repositories around the country.  Local authorities, universities, colleges, schools, businesses, private families, charities, heritage organisations and community groups are amongst the many organisations sharing their catalogues with us.

The site is also packed with information, help and guidance on Scotland’s archives.  Whether you are a professional user such as an historian, student, or genealogist or simply using the site to search for family or local history or even just to nosy around, then we hope you find lots here to help you.

See ‘List of contributors’ (link) for details of the current repositories provided data to Your Scottish Archives.

The infrastructure for the project is being provided by the Scottish Council of Archives (link), working with Jisc/Archives Hub (AH link). It will build capacity amongst archive holders and develop skills, particularly amongst local communities, making an enormous contribution to the wider heritage sector by improving access to Scotland’s documented past.
